Deirdre O’Neill, Substitute Teacher

Deirdre’s career in education began at Early Intervention, as a Parent Educator for high risk families.

Deirdre has been an early childhood educator for over 25 years. Before shifting to classroom teaching, her career began at Early Intervention as a Parent Educator for high risk families. This experience taught her that the best way to educate a young child is in collaboration with, and in support of, the whole family. She continues to welcome engagement with her students' families.

Deirdre is particularly passionate about literacy and uses storytelling, drama, music, and poetry to wrap preschoolers in the magic of language.

She has a Master of Fine Arts in Writing from Emerson College, and writes poetry and children’s stories in her free time. She is currently working on a book about teaching conflict resolution skills to young children.

Deirdre lives in Roslindale with her wife, her nonagenarian mother-in-law, and the family dog, Giuseppe. When not teaching young children, she can usually be found in her backyard tending to her organic vegetable garden.
