Sylvia Kohn-Levitt, Lead Teacher

Sylvia Kohn-Levitt grew up in the Bronx in New York City, where she looked for plants growing in just about every crack in the sidewalk! Sylvia graduated from Brandeis University in 2020 with a BS in Health, Science, Society and Policy, where she studied both biology and social sciences. From childhood through college, studying science for her was always rooted (pun intended) in deep curiosity and appreciation for the world around her. This is exactly what she hopes to encourage in her work as an early childhood educator. Sylvia works with her co-teachers to create a warm and supportive community in which the children feel excited to explore and question the world around them. In her previous years of work as a toddler/preschool teacher, she led environmental education programs for children in a garden, focusing on maintaining the garden and appreciating nature through all of its seasons. She is so excited to be joining BOPN and to have the opportunity to be outside with children every day!

Sylvia is currently enrolled in the Bank Street College of Education’s Learning and Engagement in Museums and Cultural Organizations program, and expects to graduate in 2024 with an M.S.Ed. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, visiting museums, and eating food with her loved ones!
