Priscilla Silva, Site Float Teacher

Priscilla’s most valuable memories are those in nature and learning about nature.
Growing up, she made a game of walking through the woods near her house, creating stories and worlds with all the animals she saw.

Priscilla discovered her love for working with children through a four-year Child Growth and Development course in high school. This course gave her an opportunity to work with toddlers and infants in the attached daycare, ultimately creating and teaching lesson plans for the children there.

For almost a decade, Priscilla has worked as a mother’s helper or nanny. While earning her Psychology degree at Suffolk University, Priscilla researched how different learning methods can benefit children as well as teachers. She fell in love with child-led learning, and values play and curiosity as crucial parts of learning—and fostering a love of learning—in children.

Priscilla believes that building community within a class, through discussion, teaches students that their voices and opinions matter. 

Since graduating, Priscilla has dedicated more time to exploring and learning in nature alongside the children she works with. She has seen children transform from being cautious and shy in nature, to begging for more time outside to continue exploring and learning.

She has witnessed the positive impact of learning in nature on the children she works with, like increased emotional regulation and confidence, and a greater willingness to learn.

In her free time, Priscilla loves spending time in the sun, swimming, and watching ocean documentaries.
