Why BOPN?

WOMAN
FOUNDED & LED

  • BOPN was founded by a diverse team of female educators who wanted to create an authentic, play-based experience for our youngest learners.

  • BOPN is managed by a team of stakeholders comprising BOPN co-Founders, BOPN teachers, and BOPN parents.

EXPERTISE

  • BOPN was created by a team of teachers with expertise in both early childhood development and nature immersive education.

  • BOPN offers year-round nature immersive programming. For us, there is no such thing as bad weather!

  • Co-Founders Sarah Besse & Shela Sinelien were recently recognized with the Boston University Young Alumni Award for their work creating innovative early education opportunities.

NonProfit

  • BOPN is a small 501c3 nonprofit organization.

  • We partner with nonprofit host sites (such as MassHort at Elm Bank and the Arnold Arboretum) to further hands-on outdoor education and nature preservation.

inclusive

  • BOPN is committed to expanding access to quality outdoor education.

  • We give over 10% of annual tuition revenue in the form of scholarships to families who would not otherwise be able to access nature programming.

We are an inspired team of teachers with experience in public, private, and Montessori schools, who are thrilled to give your child the opportunity to play, learn, and thrive outdoors! Our programs spark curiosity, discovery, and connection with nature. What started as one preschool class has since expanded to offerings for toddlers, preschoolers, pre-K, kindergarteners, and beyond.

Boston Outdoor Preschool Network (BOPN) is committed to nature-based learning and play. The ever-changing landscapes of the Arnold Arboretum (JP/Roslindale) and Massachusetts Horticultural Society (Wellesley) provide endless opportunities for discovery and learning. At BOPN we build community while valuing each child’s unique experiences and needs.

Boston Outdoor Preschool Network (BOPN) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization focused on nature-based early childhood education.
