Michaela Malec, Assistant Teacher

Michaela prioritizes creating a welcoming and equitable learning environment for all students.

Michaela is originally from the suburbs of Chicago but graduated from the University of Vermont in May 2023 with a B.S. in Elementary Education and a minor in Education and Cultural Linguistic Diversity. Her time in Burlington furthered her love of the outdoors and introduced her to the world of outdoor education.

Learning about how nature can intertwine with education transformed her teaching philosophy and her vision for the type of teacher she aspires to be. At UVM she spent her time hiking, leading backpacking trips with the Outing Club, skiing, and riding her bike down to the lake. When she wasn’t outside she was in the classroom. She has worked in a variety of schools from urban to rural; each providing her with unique takeaways and experiences that she uses to enhance her teaching. Aside from immersing students in the outdoors she prioritizes creating a welcoming and equitable learning environment for all students.

After graduation, she moved home for the summer and worked at a high ropes and zip lining course in her local forest preserve, then backpacked Europe for 3 months, and finally ended up moving to Boston. With Boston being her new home, she is excited to explore the city and find the best spots for coffee and bagels!
