Mel Suckow, Lead Teacher

Mel has a deep appreciation for play-based learning, social justice, community, and literacy.

Mel has over a decade of experience in K12 Education, serving in a variety of traditional educational capacities such as lead teacher, special educator, and instructional coach in Baltimore and Boston. Equipped with both a Master's in Education and a Master's in Special Education from Lesley University, Mel is dedicated to promoting educational equity.

Mel's educational journey has cultivated her deep appreciation for play-based learning, social justice, community, and literacy. She has witnessed firsthand the transformative power of play and inquiry in fostering creativity, social skills, and cognitive development within her students.

Mel finds solace and inspiration in outdoor pursuits such as hiking, backpacking, and trail running, where she consistently discovers her own potential. She is driven to extend this sense of empowerment to her students, merging her passion for education with her love for the great outdoors. Mel is committed to creating joyful and interactive learning experiences for every child, setting the stage for a lifelong love of learning and self-discovery.

Joining BOPN represents the convergence of Mel's two greatest passions: education and nature. However, when she's not teaching, you can find her exploring new destinations and cuisines with her wife, diving into a good book, and playing games with friends.
