Eric Barrese, Arboretum Site Director

With over a decade of experience in education, including six years in early childhood education, Eric brings a deep commitment to creating meaningful, engaging learning experiences for children.

Eric holds a degree in Geography and History, with a minor in Women and Gender Studies, and is passionate about creating environments where children can explore, ask questions, build confidence, and develop a strong sense of connection to their communities and the natural world.

He especially values the unique flow of early childhood education, where learning can grow from children’s interests, questions, and discoveries. He enjoys following children’s lead, observing what sparks their curiosity, and finding ways to support and extend their learning.

He believes some of the most meaningful learning happens when educators create space for children to explore, take appropriate risks, and develop confidence in their own abilities.

Eric’s interest in outdoor education began with his experience as an Outdoor Living Specialist at summer camp, where he led children in fire-building, outdoor crafts, hiking, and cooking. He values the independence, curiosity, and hands-on learning that outdoor environments encourage.

As a Site Director, Eric is excited to bring his experience in education, love of the outdoors, and commitment to supporting children, families, and educators to the Boston Outdoor Preschool Network community.

Outside of work, Eric loves spending time outdoors and exploring with his Shih Tzu, who is always happy to join the adventure.
