Celia Silverstein, Summer Teaching Fellow
Celia approaches teaching with compassion, joy, and sensitivity—values that she believes encourage children to care for themselves, others, and nature.
Celia interned at BOPN in December 2024 and is thrilled to return for the summer! She has spent the last three summers teaching at a nature preschool back home in New York, which ignited her passion for outdoor early education.
Celia’s teaching experience has deepened her belief in the power of nature-based learning. She has observed how nature strengthens children’s imagination, resilience, empathy, and their ability to emotionally regulate.
Growing up, Celia spent every free moment outside, building fairy houses and forts, climbing trees, and trying to rescue all the earthworms that wiggled onto the road after rainstorms!
Her imagination has always flourished outdoors, and nature continues to be one of her biggest artistic inspirations, whether she’s sculpting, collaging, writing, or photographing.
Celia will enter her senior year at Carleton College this fall, where she majors in English and minors in Voice Performance and Creative Writing. Her love of storytelling informs her teaching, and she uses her imagination to help facilitate play between children, problem solve, and create silly songs and dances!
