Tuition-Free

Our preschool will be tuition-free, with priority enrollment for families who live within one mile of the property. In addition, BOPN will provide the outdoor clothing and boots needed for children to play and learn outdoors, rain or shine.

Small Footprint

We propose building a single-story preschool of ~900 square feet with one classroom, an office,

and a bathroom.

We will use green building practices and hire a local builder to construct a modest

“one-room schoolhouse.”

Since the preschool will only use the building on weekdays, the space will be available for community groups and neighbors to book on weekends

for meetings or events.

Relevant Curriculum

Our preschool curriculum will be nature-based and culturally relevant.

We will honor children’s home cultures, nurture well-being, and inspire joy. We will provide diverse learning materials so that the children can see themselves and others reflected.

We are committed to supporting children with varying needs and abilities, and to helping parents navigate early intervention services.

Diverse Teachers

We will hire a diverse teaching staff for this class by actively recruiting teachers from Dorchester and Roxbury and by offering above-market salaries for Lead Teachers.

In addition, we currently employ youth ages 14 - 24 year-round through the city’s SuccessLink youth employment program. This allows us to hire and train a more diverse nature-based early childhood workforce.

Most of the land will be green space open to the community, with gardens, a pergola, and fruit trees. Community members may request gardening space to grow their own crops.

We will hire a construction supervisor who is from Roxbury/Dorchester and will collaborate with YouthBuild Boston.
